Photography piqued Nick’s interest early in his childhood. Accompanying his father in his darkroom he received early hands on training in the art of film developing and black and white printing. As Nick grew, so did his love and talent for photography.

While attended Waynesburg College, Nick quickly became involved in the college’s TV station and newspaper. This gave him the opportunity to get his work published in brochures and in local newspapers. He graduated in 1984, with a BA in English Communications.

After graduation, Nick relocated to Houston Texas to accept a position with Image Matrix. This was a progressive company that was an early adopter of computer generated artwork which was used in professional presentations.

In the late 1980s Nick was given an opportunity to return to Pittsburgh. He accepted an Operations Manager position with an audio visual company. During this time, the desktop computer was starting to make huge advances in imaging. Nick was able to use his professional training in this field to create better quality photos. He also saw the advantages of using these advances in technology to create new and exciting images. Today most of his work is produced in a digital format.

Nick’s avid interests in the outdoors include scuba diving, kayaking, hiking and cycling. He is also a pilot for which he currently holds a Commercial Pilots License and a Flight Instructor Certificate.

All of these outdoor activities give him the perfect opportunity to create unique photographs that draw the audience into a captured moment in time.

Nick currently does exclusive photo sessions by appointment. He also sells his photos to individuals and companies. He can be contacted by phone at (412)-276-6465 mail: nsantillo@gmail.com

Some of your photos are truly amazing. And from my experience some of them may be relevant to magazine market. Have you ever thought about that? In most cases it’s not about sending photos that your friends like, I would say in most cases magazines have really strange requirements. There are quite a few really good books and websites out there if you go looking. My suggestion is to check one of them – http://www.freelance-market.net – and try a couple magazines until you find out what does the job right for you. And certainly don't be despondent when your images are rejected or not used. After all it’s fun.

Your work is fantastic! Your photos are cutting edge. They touch people, and tell stories. That is the very definition of art.
